It’s been a pretty quiet year on bendali.co.uk and I’m sure thousands of you have been screaming ‘Hey Ben, watcha been up to?’ Well fear not for I am here to tell you that now.
Edinburgh 2017 was a lovely month, with lots of wonderful hypnotising and of course I’ve started running the Not So Secret Society variety shows. Since August I’ve been doing mostly private hypnosis shows with only a couple of public ones worth telling you all about. On the variety show front, Not So Secret Society has had a great year, with successful monthly events in Elephant and Castle that will continue beyond Edinburgh Fringe (facebook.com/NSSSLondon for info)
I’ve had some interesting high profile gigs come in since last year 2, including hypnotising a bunch of BBC journalists for Radio 4’s The Why Factor and becoming one of only 30 people ever to appear behind the podium on Take Me Out after having already come down in the lift. It was a celeb girls special with Paddy’s favourite lads of the past. Tbh the episode was a bit crappy but had a lovely day with the best TMO lads (who are still single) and it’s nice to be part of an elite group no matter how mundane.
And of course, as always, I’ve been working hard on getting ready for Edinburgh Fringe 2018. There’s a brand new hypnosis show for you called Trance of A Lifetime at a brand new timeslot of 10pm, making it much more adult and boundary-pushing than the 1.30pm Strictly Come Trancing and Take A Trance On Me. It’s still in the Liquid Room but now upstairs in the Annexe.
Not So Secret Society graduates to a bigger and better room than last year, with its new home in Bourbon Bar (Room 1) up on Frederick Street. It’s going to be a family friendly show as well, taking place at 18.30, loads of fun for adults and families alike with top name comedians and cabaret stars from across the fringe – including Rory Bremner, Stuart Goldsmith, Carey Marx, Mark Thompson, Charlie Caper, Lady Rizo, John Cleese’s daughter Camilla Cleese, Steve Hofstetter, Mad Men star Allan Havey, Natalie Palamides, tributes to Marilyn Monroe, Tommy Cooper, Frank Sinatra and Laurel & Hardy. And loads more huge names of course. Check the full list of acts and details on our Facebook event page https://www.facebook.com/events/885124185016689/
You may be aware this is my last Edinburgh Fringe – or at least my last full run for the foreseeable future. Come September I’m giving the stage a backseat as I train to become a primary school teacher in North London. I decided it’s about time I did something more noble and stable, as the life of a solo entertainer has become a bit lonely and unrewarding, and it’s high time I shared my knowledge and skills to inspire and educate the next generation of world-changers. But I’ll not be gone forever – I’m still available for bookings and am likely to put in some special appearances in future Edinburghs.
Look forward to seeing you up there, please do come and say ‘hi’ and remember, if you’ve got any performance opportunities, private functions, TV or radio or online spots that require and entertaining mind reader/hypnotist/expert then I’m still your guy 😀
